Fire Break
The forest burns.
Some fool started it –
or is this the natural order,
the way of the world?
Oxygen, heat, and fuel
fated to react
and then bang!
Hell let loose in
a conflagration to threaten
all eternity – countless cells
of plants and animals,
each molecule aflame
and crackling acrid
life-defying smoke.
Like our memories,
our every lived experience,
second by second since
conception. All culminate in this.
Who’s the culprit?
Both of us struck the match –
or is this the natural order,
the way of the world?
